BIOGRAPHY

María “la Serrana” distiguishes herself on stage through strength, elegance, her ability to communicate and pure gipsy style. She started studying with maestros such as Antonio Canales, Matilde Coral, Manuela Carrasco, Manolete, Carmen Ledesma and Carmelilla Motoya. Later, she continued to study with younger maestros. However, her style blossomed to it fullest studying with the Farruco family. She studied with every family member, although mostly with Farruquito on a  daily basis for 9 years.In 1999 she opens her dance school, and has been teaching in Spain and abroad ever since. 

TOURS AND FLAMENCO ESENCIA
In 2012 she opened her tablao Flamenco Esencia in Seville, an intimate space where artists, sevillians and foreigners meet and enjoy a flamenco evening. There, she worked with the most imported and welknown flamenco artists of Seville. Her bussinesspartner, the dancer Antonio Moreno “Polito” programms the special events. 

Maria always performed in theatres, peñas and tablaos. In her own proyect she always is the main dancer, but also the general and artistic director

In 2004 and 2005 she was on tour with “Volver a Tiempos Perdidos” which honoured old and forgotten styles.

In 2007 she made the show Peña Flamenca, especially to perform abroad. where the intimate peña ambiance is difficult to find. In 2008 she was appointed artistic director of the First Irish Flamenco Festival, supported by the Arts Council.

In 2009 and 2010 she went on tour with “Bandera Flamenca”, a very personal story of the dancer for which she wrote all the lyrics. She performed at the Flamenco Festival of the Hague, the Festival de Esc-sur Alzette (Luxemburg) and the Irish Flamenco festival, supported by the Arts Council, Instituto Cervantes, Junta de Andalucía. 

In 2011 Maria makes “IDA Y VUELTA” where she teaches foreign dancers (professional and amateur) during the year before the show to participate and work with high quality artists from Seville. The show goes on tour in Holland and Belgium and receives an important sum from Fonds Cultuurparticipatie to do so.  

In 2012 and 2013 she goes smaller again but with a magnificent group of artists. She makes “ESENCIA” around the genious singer Juan José Amador who normally sings for dance. María wants him to display his solo talents more. Tthey have a lovey tour throughout Holland, Belgium, Portugal and France are guests in the peña flamenca El Dorado de Barcelona

In 2013 and 2015 she goes on tour with Respiro Flamenco, gathering 5 dancers on stage in alle different styles to showcase Flamenco at this day and age. They went on tour throughout Holland Belgium Germany and Spain, performing for example at the Festival of Bruges, Two nights at the Festival of Düsseldorf, the Primera Muestra de Flamenco de Sevilla, with great critics from Córdoba Flamenca, ABC and Diario de Sevilla. She got a grant from the Junta de Andalusia, Line-up Mercedes de Córdoba, Ana Morales, Carmen Ledesma, Carmelilla Montoya, David Perez, Choro, Rafael Campallo, Juan José Amador, Pepe de Pura Javier Rivera, Jesus Corbacho

In 2014  and she makes “Generaciones” en which she wants to display the differences that occur in the art gipsy families. They con on tour throughout Holland, Belgium and Ireland. Line-up Juan de los Reyes, Saray de los Reyes, Lole de los Reyes, Choro, Juan Jose Amador father and son, Luis Amador Padre, Jesús Corbacho, Ramón Amador and Luis Amador

En 2016, 2017 and 2018 she goes on tour with “Flamenco Íntimo” with Rosario Amador and Luis Amador

Im 2018 maria goes on a monthlong international tour with “Los Hombros de Hercules”, In every city she invites a local guest dancer to partcipate in the show. The tour sterted in Paris, then Dublin, Belfast and 8 days in Holland and Belgium, Edinburgh, London and two days in Malta

Her tour with “Santuario” was quite exceptiional. It was another month long tour throughout Europe planned in april 2020. It was broken up into three smaller tours in 2020, 2021 and 2022. The company worked through alle restrictions at the time, not settling for not being able to bring flamenco to the public which was thirstyto see a show. Santuario recovered styles like the zambra and alboreá which are sacred to the family and do normally not get to stage. In this show she also invited local special guests  

2025 Parte de mi is on tour in the Netherlands. It shows the artists most beloved styles

During her long career, Maria organized 11 own productions and shared the stage with renowned artsist for many years. Such as: Juan José Amador, Pepe de Pura, Segumo Segura, Jesús Corbacho (last two winner sof the Lámpara Minera) Choro, Polito, Rafael Campallo, Mercedes de Córdoba, Carmelilla Montoya, Carmen Ledesma, Ana Morales, david Pérez as special guests on dance, de los Reyes family as special guests on dance, Luis Amador, Juan Campallo and Ramón Amador on guitar. and many many more….
